How to choose the right boules
The boules are first chosen according to your hand size (diameter).
then based on weight (heavier for pointers and lighter for shooters), elasticity (hard, semi-soft or soft boule), and handling feel.
What does hardness mean?
The standard way to express boules hardness is based on ROCKWELL"HRC" index, or in kg/mm².
For example, 39 HRC corresponds to 124 kg/mm², and the higher number and the harder the boule.
The harder the boule, the less likely it is to get damaged, and the higher its elasticity, and vice versa.
How are boules manufactured?
Match boules are hollow and made following this manufacturing process:
a lump of steel is heated up to 1000° and flattened, then embossed to make a half sphere.
The half spheres are welded, then turned to form perfect cylinder shape, then stamped.
The boule is subsequently heated, and then steeped in baths to determine its hardness.
It is then polished or varnished, before inspection.
How to clean your petanque boules?
After each match, wipe off dust with a clean cloth. Once a month, oil your petanque boules to prevent them from rusting. Cleaning regularly lengthens the lifespan of your petanque boules while also ensuring the quality of your match.
